We dream of getting married and living happily ever after. It is the big Disney theme and is portrayed in movies. In real life it seems to never happen. Research shows that one third of marriages are happy, one third get by and one third are not happy. According to Paul Amato, a top divorce rate researcher, between 42% and 45% of marriages in the US will end in divorce. this is actually down from before 2000. The main factor that has caused this decrease is that marriage rates have declined. Fewer people in the U.S. are getting married, opting for co-habitation or remaining single. Here are some US statistics to consider. Every 13 seconds someone is filing for divorce. Eight years is the average duration of a first marriage. Women file for 66% of divorces. Each year 4% of US military will divorce. Children are affected by divorce. 50% of children will see their parents divorce. Then 43% will live without the influence of the father. We cannot turn a blind eye to this.
